How can I take care of my toothbrush?

If not cared for properly, toothbrushes can be a breeding ground for germs, fungus and bacteria. One of the first steps in toothbrush care is to let it air dry between uses. Shake vigorously under running water and store it in an upright position.

Change your toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles wear out quickly. Studies show after three months of normal wear and tear, toothbrush bristles break down and are much less effective than a new toothbrush at removing plaque from teeth and gums.

It is also important to change toothbrushes after having a cold, flu, mouth infection or a sore throat to prevent re-infection. Also, try to keep toothbrushes from touching others when they are stored so cold and flu viruses aren’t passed between brushes. A healthy mouth leads to a healthy body.
